Lance Kumm – Head Instructor –  15th Dan

140806-N-ON977034 (2)He has been involved in the martial arts for over 25 years. He started his martial arts training in Santa Barbara studying Tang Soo Do. At Cal State Long Beach he studied Shotokan and Hwa Rang Do. In 1992 Lance started his training in the Bujinkan where he studied under Kevin Millis at the Shibu West Dojo in Irvine, California. He travels to Japan at least once a year to train with Soke Masaaki Hatsumi and other senior instructors.  Lance was given the rank of 15th Dan by Nagato Sensei in June 2013.  This is the highest rank one can achieve in the Bujinkan. Lance has a B.S. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Long Beach State and holds three patents in the field of Neuro Surgery. He is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association and the American College of Sports Medicine. In addition to operating Anaguma Dojo, Lance is Vice President of Sales for a metal fabrication company. Lance is fully licensed by Hatsumi Sensei and the Bujinkan Honbu Dojo in Noda, Japan.


Andy Martin – Senior Instructor – 15th Dan

andy-martinAndy Martin, Shihan in the Bujinkan system, has more than 35 years of training and life experiences in the martial arts.  He came to study Bujinkan after diligently training in a number of other martial arts such as Tae Kwon Do, Kenpo and Muy Thai boxing.  His commitment to the art of the nine schools of Bujinkan, frequently takes him back to Japan to further his studies with Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi as well as other high-ranking teachers within the Bujinkan system. Andy views teaching is a balance of joy and responsibility.  The joy of sharing the profound lessons and techniques of this ancient art as well as the responsibility to remain in the service of what is good for humanity and for all life.

Andy demonstrates the integration of compassion into the warrior lifestyle through his ongoing work as a human resources executive as well as with various philanthropic commitments such as various AIDS foundations, Achievable Foundation and Breast Cancer Society.


Matt Shattuck – Instructor – 11th Dan

140807-N-ON977-243 (2)Matt Shattuck began training in the Bujinkan in 2002. . He is also He travels to Japan annually for training at the Honbu Dojo with current Masters and senior instructors. Matt is fully licensed by Hatsumi Sensei and the Bujinkan Honbu Dojo in Noda, Japan.


Lenny Schaeffer – Assistant Instructor – 5th Dan

20151114_113735 (2)Lenny  started training 7 years ago at the Anaguma Dojo. He passed his 5th Dan test in the summer of 2015 while in Japan. He is very dedicated to his training. He is aslo fully licensed by Hatsumi Sensei and the Bujinkan Honbu Dojo in Noda, Japan.


Eric Modeen – Assistant Instructor – 3rd Dan

Eric
Eric (on the left. With Duncan Stweart, on the right)has been training with us for the last 6 years. He is also a very advanced practitioner of the Bujikan.


Vincent Clarke – Assistant Instructor – 4th Dan
